WHO: Lan Wangji and anyone who might be curious about magical workings / wants to help
WHEN: June
WHAT: Trying to build an array, or a set of talismans, to keep a house very, very cold
WHERE: Gazin
WARNINGS: Possibly none, will edit as necessary
Wangji might be a little focused after the new arrival sets out to the familiar cold of the mountains. He spends a lot of time around the house that Wen Kexing has chosen. Anyone magically sensitive can feel his spiritual energy examining the place, trying some things.
He also draws trial patterns in small scale, working through various parts of the problem.
And he might be spending time gathering odd ingredients, especially herbs that run to the cold, different minerals and such - some from the market, some from the alchemist's shop, some gathered on his own.
Wei Wuxian knows what he's doing to begin with, because of course he does, but anyone curious as to what he is doing is free to ask.

He peeks around the side of the cute house, debating how brazen and irreverent to be - but, he can only be true to himself, can't he? True to the self he's learning to be, thanks to Song Lan and Xiao Xingchen.
So he steps out with a small grin, sauntering over to peer blatantly at the array. His sword remains strapped to his back, he doesn't actually want a fight, especially with this man. Not a real one.
"What's this for, Hanguang-jun?"

"Cold."
... and Wangji is Wangji.

He's also careful not to step on any line or the rest of what's been gathered. Chewing on his bottom lip a moment.
"I came in with my part of the Stygian Tiger Amulet...Think that might help power it?" It's not like he's done anything with it. It had been an accident when he'd come across where the first Xingchen had hidden it. He doesn't care what Wangji wants to do with this thing, any result would be good for more people.
He just knows the amulet he'd rebuilt is evil, and so might not be wanted.

"Will stop working after not many more uses."
He is... not sure that Wen Kexing would see good and evil the same way as they do. Perhaps he will, and he might even ask him about it - but it's no use building the array with a focus that will cease working.
"Who lives here will have to power it."
no subject
"No real loss then, though it would've been convenient."
He means it, too. He'd like to be helpful. He always has, really, with those he's chosen to align himself with. He's just finally picked good people to cling to now.
"Mm? Who'll live here? It's a cute house, I'm sure they're just as cute." Or they should be!
no subject
"New arrival. Too hot, went to the mountains."
But while he didn't think the prospect of living out there was entirely unwelcome to Wen Kexing, an option was probably for the better.

Finding it only breaks after a bit now is just...an odd sort of justice. Xue Yang feels rather giddy that Wangji is talking to him civilly! He must be doing something right.
He can't help but bounce a little on his feet as he thinks, trying to find some way to make this thing work - he'd recreated the Amulet just from what Wuxian had left behind, after all. Surely he can be somewhat helpful!
"Oh no, that won't do! They have to enjoy Gazin too!" Meaning this has to work! He won't rest until it does!
He steps away and kneels to work on a few thoughts of his own, not disturbing what Wangji's already done.
"How cold do they need it? Must be pretty cold if they're heading for the mountains."
no subject
"We appreciate your help, Hanguang-Jun." he smiles sweetly, "The place we originally called home was surrounded by snow all year round." and they had eaten the snow to keep their immortality. Without the ice, Zishu fears they might be tempted to eat normal food again - and thus undo the spell.
"If this place can be cold enough to support snow, that's all we need."
no subject
Until he sneezes, and then lets out a groan. It's probably been some hours since he's eaten, or drank, anything. It does seem chillier, but is it chilly enough for these people? It's a little odd to Wuxian, making things colder rather than warmer, but it's a welcomed challenge to him.
"Lan Zhaaaannn..." The whine is drawn out just a bit for the dramatics, and then a sigh, "give me your eyes, look at this for me!"
Certainly the man could make heads and tails of his scribbles, and tell him what looks right even if he knows what he's doing himself.

"Cold. Ice and snow at all times. First part, limits around the grounds, keep the weather outside. Second part lower temperature."
He considers. "First part could later protect Gazin from storms."
If need arises.
no subject
"Mn. Two parts. Separate from the heat, lower temperature. Then simplify, lower the energy to maintain."
A problem seems too large at first, but then if it gets broken down to smaller parts, each of those, or most of those, might be possible to solve, or to use previous solutions to.
"Protective barrier as basis for separation, modified."
Wangji has been told that cold means life, and he supports the choice. Besides... it gives both him and Wei Ying something to focus on which will increase their knowledge, and Wangji likes that.

He takes a moment, but that is only because he's bringing the pot of tea with him, and cups. Pours one and holds it out to Wei Ying.
"Where is trouble?"
To him, Wangji has already told the breakdown - barrier between the environment and the house, based on the Cloud Recesses barrier, and then lowering the temperature inside. And then the second part needs further breaking.
Beyond that, he wants to see what Wei Ying has come up with this far. The two of them have very different ways of thinking and approach to problems, but they also complement each other very well. Wangji might be a little excited, honestly, to be working on this with his husband.

He allows the smile to turn admiring. "How gracious of Hanguang-Jun to think of the whole town!" But he'd happily help power it. "Maybe extend it or add little pockets of protection in the Forest for travelers?"
Since, well, they're doing all this work. Might as well look at the bigger picture, right?
Crawls back late bc DW had rudely eaten this
"It produces coldness, but is it enough? I'm cold but I get colder easily, and you're used to the Cold Springs."
If anyone would be the expert on cold temperatures, it would have to be his husband. And who else could translate his notes well enough for input as well?
no subject
"As necessary. Task at hand first. Then adjust."
Xue Chengmei has not exactly visited the Cloud Recesses, but the barrier there can be useful - in most situations, of not necessarily all.
notifs please
Cultivation regulates the body allowing those progressing to be shielded from the whim of the elements. Heat or cold mattered much less to him than to many, and the two newly arrived cultivators probably less than to him - except heat, but that is a specific circumstance.
"Support ice and snow."
Then Wangji focuses on the writing, brows scrunching a tiny bit just in a couple of places.
One of his hands moves to wrap around Wei Ying's fingers even as he keeps reading.
Seriously
"Right, so.. freezing then, not just cold."
Another sigh, a headshake this time knowing he definitely doesn't have it too cold yet.
"It won't be cold enough yet. Is there something that you see that would work different in there?"
no subject
"I am! I was just adding to what you said. It's easier to keep the bigger project in mind so adding details will be simpler later, rather than having to rework it entirely."
It makes sense to him. So that's what he's going with.
