⚔️ Join us, brothers and sisters.

WHO: Aella Tabris ([personal profile] fangoffenharel) and OPEN
WHEN: June!
WHAT: Stuff! Things! Aella is settled in and getting into trouble.
WHERE: All over the place in and around Gazin; venturing further out
WARNINGS: None to start, probably. Besides Aella swearing like a sailor but that doesn’t really need a warning.
NOTES: feel free to find her anywhere. Catch her in a bar fight, getting into trouble in the forest. Catch her drinking in a tavern. Choose the unspoken (unwritten?) WILDCARD! option.

Well. This wasn’t what Aella expected. At fucking all. The landsmeet had ended, and she’d spared Loghain’s life. Because no matter how fucking badly she wanted to end him... she’s barely grown. She had no great knowledge of strategy or how to command ARMIES. She’s barely managed to keep her motley band of misfits together.

(She hadn’t, though. Alistair left. Because she spared Loghain. Without giving her even a moment to explain WHY. Her reason didn’t matter. It only mattered that she hadn’t murdered him where he stood.)

Loghain was a soldier. A general. And a good one, before he’d gone and fucked everything up. She needed his expertise. Needed him to help her to make sure this worked. Make sure they won. Make sure she knew what she needed to before the battle was joined. She had to put aside her desire to end him. For Ferelden. No matter how much it fucking bothered her. She needed him. (And oh that just makes her want to fucking vomit.)

The Landsmeet ended, they’d won the day and she’d convinced them to side with her, and Loghain became a Warden... But Alistair was gone and they still had an Archdemon to face.

All she’d wanted was to be somewhere else. ANYWHERE ELSE. She didn’t want this. Didn’t want to be the one on who the fate of the entire fucking world depended. (She wanted Alistair back. He could have listened. Could have trusted her. He’d followed her across the world, he couldn’t give her one chance to explain?)

And now she’d found herself here. In a town called Gazin. Which sure as shit wasn’t anywhere familiar; she’s done a lot of travelling and looked at a lot of maps and hadn’t seen hide or hair of anywhere called Gazin. Didn’t change the fact that she’s here, now.

It was easy enough to settle in, at least. She found herself a place to stay. At least she was alright on the gold front. Turns out all the gathering (and looting) she’d done before the Landsmeet comes in fucking handy. She’ll need a job still, probably, but at least she can take a little time. Figure out what the hell she CAN do, here. The blacksmith is promising, and so are the taverns. And the breadmaker. She’s got options, is what she’s saying.

On the upside, no one looks at her ears twice, here in Gazin. No insults or disparaging comments or people treating her like shit, like something less just because she’s an elf. On the downside, she’s a long way from home. A long way from everything she needs to do. It’s practically fucking peaceful, here. She thinks she likes it, if she didn’t feel like she’d abandoned everything and everyone that was important.

But she is used to being a whole lot more busy than this. It’s weird not to be fighting anything or doing her best to navigate politics. Or choose fucking rulers. There was that, too. There’s talk of things in the forest, though. So yeah, she absolutely heads out there for some exploring when the calm and lack of... complicated bullshit gets to her too much. Not even worried about necessarily finding the things in the forest, but it’s nice to get moving.

There’s also the whole... Morrigan thing. A stranger wearing her friends face. A stranger she has a hard fucking time of thinking of as a stranger. It’s Morrigan. And it doesn’t change what they’ve been through together. Or the fact that she IS her friend. Even if the mage doesn’t know or remember her. It’s super fucking complicated and Aella is somewhere between wanting to seek her out and make sure she’s doing all right and avoiding the hell out of her. So she sort of does both; having found the spot in the forest that Morrigan is calling her own makes it easy to just... casually leave shit there for her. Baskets filled with food. Other important things. Doesn’t advertise that she’s doing it, doesn’t even leave a clue that it’s her that’s doing it. Just... leaves it for her when the mage isn’t there. (And the fact of the matter is that even knowing that she’s not her Morrigan it still makes being here a whole lot better, having her here.)

It’s complicated. So maybe that’s why she spends so much time in the forest (avoiding Morrigan’s little corner of it when she’s there), although she doesn’t stray TOO far, yet. She can take her time getting familiar with it. No absolutely DOOM and fate of the world on her shoulders and racing halfway across the continent back and forth to do what she’s got to do.

Yeah. This is kind of a vacation and she doesn’t know how she feels about it yet. Even a couple months in. But at least she’s settled in. Made something of a home for herself. It’s weird how familiar and yet still strange Gazin feels. And at least the guilt has eased a little. It’s not like she can do anything about getting herself back home right now.

She spends a lot of time in the forest, exploring and seeing what it is she can find (seeing what sort of creatures she can stumble across). Sometimes just sitting at the base of a tree and feeling like any second she’s going to see Leliana come around the corner, or see Barkspawn come bounding out from the forest with something he’s found for her. And FUCK she misses them so badly. She wants her damn mabari. She wants her friends.

(There’s always the chance that Morrigan’s going to come stepping out of the forest but she’s complicated and her friend and not her friend all at the same fucking time.)

When she’s not exploring the forest or the town itself, she can be found in a tavern. Drinking and people-watching. It’s nice to just sit and relax and not get treated like she’s a servant. She could get used to it. Has gotten used to it.

And occasionally she gets into a fight. She doesn’t like it when people treat others badly, when they get handsy and rude and try to force someone to go where they don’t want or do something they don’t want to do; and stepping in is second nature, anymore. She always pays for the damages, even though they’re not her fucking fault. (Sure, a lot of the time she pays for it with gold she’s lifted off the asshole she’s just soundly beaten, but it’s only fair.) Which is probably the only reason why she’s not gotten thrown out yet. (Or maybe the barkeeps and tavern owners realise that she’s not starting shit just for starting shit’s sake. Not that she hasn’t. But this isn’t it.)

After a fight she can be found nursing her wounds (if she got any) and a drink in the farthest removed booth she can find.

"T'is getting ridiculous," Morrigan announces as she stops in front of Aella's table at the tavern, giving the elf a withering look and pointedly putting down the bundle in front of her like it is a silent accusation.

The first time, she had thought it to be a joke, the second time she had been willing to consider it may be a prank by Graham doubting her own ability to survive in the woods, but by now there can be no doubt about the identity of the oh so anonymous gift bearer leaving bags full of gifts at her camp.

They are clever, vanishing before she arrives and evading all her wards and traps, and the gifts are... well, she has to admit that they are useful and even grudgingly appreciated. Food and all the other necessities find their way to her but mostly it is the reminder that she isn't alone here in this foreign place, even when she chooses to isolate herself in the forest.

Yet it is a matter of principle.

The innocent face may have discouraged someone else but Morrigan isn't one to easily doubt herself once her mind has been made up, so she just meets her friend's eyes, looking distinctly unimpressed by that show of innocence.

"I see. You wouldn't know the gifts left to me."

She is still keeping this up? Seriously? The disbelief can be read on Morrigan's face, though she doesn't feel nearly as much annoyance as she tries to portray.

"Somebody believes I need taking care of," she points out as she sits down across from Aella. She lets that sink in for a moment. "You wouldn't happen to know anyone else who thinks so?"
