[OPEN] In the arms of the world

WHO: Cassandra de Rolo ([personal profile] ofwovenstone) and YOU
WHEN: The last half of May + the beginning of June
WHAT: Cassandra is making a real estate purchase and celebrating having a home for the first time in... a while. And running into some bandits.
WHERE: All over Gazin and out closer to the coast.
WARNINGS: None, probably
NOTES: Feel free to find her anywhere mentioned in the log. Including the tavern post-bandit encounter. Or wildcard it and choose your own adventure!

Cassandra has been spending a lot of time in the woods. She likes Gazin, she does, but she’s finding that she’s not... in the mood for company sometimes. Except for Melora. Melora is always good company. She’s been doing a lot of thinking. Since it seems as though she’s going to be here for a while, this time (longer than any other world she’s found herself in), she thinks... she thinks it might be time to find a place for herself. A more permanent one. The way she had in the City. Somewhere she has space, and can start a garden. Someplace she can put her mark on, make it hers. In a way she never had been able to, in Whitestone.

So she starts looking. Not seriously, truthfully, not really expecting to find anywhere that suits. Not expecting to find anywhere that feels right, that feels like somewhere she could call home.

Until she’s out a little closer to the coast. And there it is. A spacious manor house and all of its its associated buildings on an island in the river. Some of the land surrounding the island belongs to it as well, and together it’s more than enough space for both her and Melora. With plenty of spots for gardens. A sanctuary out in the forest. She absolutely loves it with all her heart. It’s PERFECT. And she doesn’t hesitate to make the purchase.

And then its hers.

It feels strange, to be standing in front of a building, to be standing on an island of her very own. It’s HERS. No one else’s. Not her family’s, not PERCY’S. Hers. And hers alone. It’s a far cry from Whitestone Castle and its blood-stained halls. A fresh start. It will need a name, her new home. She’s not sure what. But she’ll find it something that suits.

For now, though, it’s time to explore the market. Begin to put her mark on the place. She’s suddenly thankful for the cart that Alaric and his wife, Edda had given her before she left Fallhaven. It makes transporting everything so much easier. She’s been earning gold for so long without making much in the way of purchases that she has quite the nest egg left over. So she indulges in more than a few new pieces of furniture and plenty of decorations for her new home. Even a hammock swing, to hang from the large tree overlooking the water. Somewhere to curl up and read when the weather is nice.

Melora loves her new home, and watching her horse frolic makes her smile.

It’s later when she heads back into Gazin. For a celebratory drink. She needs to visit the herbarium and the apothecary first, though, deliver them both basketsful of supplies. She’s still a fair distance outside the town is when she hears it. The sound of a commotion. Of trouble. And she’s dismounting the moment she sees it, tying Melora to the nearest tree branch. There’s the sound of someone pleading; Cassandra’s not close enough to hear the words, but she recognizes the tone. The fear. And she’s breaking into a run, silent and lightning quick. (Her mother would be proud, she thinks, of how well she’s put the things she’s taught her to use.)

Bandits. Of course it’s bandits. A sizeable gang of them. Holding up a pair of carts. She’s stepping out of the forest onto the edge of the dirt road without hesitation. All eyes immediately snap towards her, and she can see who looks to be the leader of the bandits sizing her up. And dismissing her. “You don’t want to do this,” she tells them. “It’s a very bad idea.”

“Do you now,” the leader sneers. “I think we do. I think it’s the best idea I’ve had all day.”

“Yes, and probably the only idea, I suspect.” She’s a de Rolo. Smart mouths run in the family. The leader of the bandits snarls at the insult, his hand tightening on his sword.

Help with bandits perhaps? I can change anything if needed!

"Ganging up on people, that's pretty low. Especially a maiden."

There's a snort in Wei Wuxian's voice as he steps out from where he'd been observing things, amused by the remarks, hand on his flute and hip near his sword that he'd remembered to bring this time. The bandits were people he had been tailing earlier to collect a bounty on, but kept his distance to see who the weakest and strongest were. Not to mention their patterns and how they did things, considering he doesn't want to be stabbed again and worry his husband about it, even if those odds were likely. He should have acted sooner, but even in his own recklessness, that could get him killed and he's trying to not get himself killed again.

"But no, I agree with the lady, it's a bad idea and I'm not in the mood to see someone hurt," he pauses with a smile towards Cassandra, "they've got a bounty on them, but I'll share it because they're not going to be easy work."
