I move like a cat, talk like a rat, sting like a bee
WHO johanna mason + finnick odair
WHEN right now!
WHERE at the beginning!
WHAT johanna arrives!
WARNING hunger games is focused on children fighting to the death.
(In Panem, Johanna closes her eyes and wrestles with sleep for hours. When she finally loses consciousness, she awakes, standing. She nearly falls over. Looking around, she's at a crossroad. It looks like a poor, rural area, maybe she's in 12? Is she dreaming?
The sign at the crossroads indicates that there's a tavern in the direction Johanna starts to walk in. It's nice out, which is good, because she's without shoes and is in soft pants and a tank top. She has her axes at her side, which makes her feel slightly better.
The further in she gets, the more people and buildings she sees. This is not like the Capitol at all, nor is it 12...
She arrives at the tavern-- if not for the fact that she looked heavily armed, she also starts demanding answers.)
Where am I? Whose side are you on?
(It's enough to get the attention of someone upstairs.)

But he's not focusing enough to not notice the sounds from downstairs. Something in the tone alerts him, forces the voice to his attention, and after a moment he's up and headed for the stairs.
It can't be.
But if he could find Annie here, then why not?
He bolts down the stairs and heads for the main room. And there she is, dressed casually, shoeless, completely unlike the last time he'd seen her in the arena except for being armed. And looking ready to fight with anyone who doesn't tell her what she wants to know. ]
Johanna?

But no, it's actually Finnick. Which means this is some sort of sick joke. She walks straight up to him, looking up a little to train her eyes on his.)
Prove you're really you.

[ And he means it too, his voice full of the sort of cocky self-assurance she's used to hearing from him; and bravado as well. But Johanna looks shaken, and she's hard to shake, so he lets his smile slip a bit and considers his next words. ]
The first time we met I tried to give you some advice on life as a victor. Didn't go over well. Didn't help that I was drunk.

How?! You know what, I don't care. I'm just happy to see you. Wow. Holy shit, Odair. You sugarcube eating asshole.

She seems to really actually be pleased to see him so the least he can do is show that he's pleased to see her too. ]
How is the thing nobody seems to have an answer to. Or if they do, they're not sharing.
[ He shrugs, affecting greater indifference than he truly feels. ]

(She hasn't heard from Katniss in a long time, it would be kind of weird to see her again.
She reaches out and grabs Finnick's bicep, like he's a teddy bear to grip onto. Like he might float away.)
Tell me about this place!

[ Annie answers a question that not many people know to ask him.
Or knew to ask him, before he screamed for Annie in the arena and undid years' worth of attempts at secrecy. ]
Come on. Annie and I have a room, upstairs. I can fill you in on what I know.
[ He gestures towards the stairs, then turns for the door. ]
It's not a lot. Either people don't really know why we're here or they're not telling.
sorry for the delay!
(She's thankful. She doesn't say anything about a pregnancy, because if Finnick is still alive, then time is fucky here. But thankful that Annie doesn't have to cry over Finnick all the time.)
Yeah, yeah, let's go. (she waves at the bartender she was just accosting.) Later, man!
no worries and sorry in return - vacation turned out to be much busier than expected!
Finnick knows what to make of her. He trusts her -- more than he does Katniss, who'd looked ready to kill him more than once in the Quell.
So he grins, gesturing for Johanna to follow him, and heads up the stairs, strides quick, then down the corridor to his and Annie's room. It's a small room for two people, made smaller by the fish trap that's on the chair and the pile of rope in the corner.
Finnick moves the fish trap to the bed and sits down next to it, gesturing to the chair to say Johanna can sit if she wants.]
You just suddenly find yourself here? Far as I can work out, nobody seems to know why, but the same thing happened to me and Annie and some of the other people here. A lot of people say they're not from Panem, too. Never heard of it. Never heard of me.
we'll just slowly pick at this~
Yeah, I woke up and I was standing. I had my axes on me, but I was still in the clothes that I fell asleep in. I was just... here.
(When he tells her know one knows of Panem, she feels a small swell of hope.)
So there's no war here, or a war to recover from?
