Seasonal Event: Oktoberfest

WHAT: It’s that time of year, Fall is in the air, the trees are changing, and Gazin is celebrating Harvest! Below you will find celebrations and prompts for your consideration.

Catfe Gerdri
A small cafe opened its doors onto its friendly little street. Inside it was selling hot drinks with funny names to make its clientele laugh for the season. There were pumpkin drinks and apple drinks, drinks made with coffee, drinks made with tea but the real draw was its cats. There were cats of all sizes and all needed to be pet and loved on. They were even autumn colours; creams and whites, gingers and deep browns. Some of them were up for adoption and had little red collars on with little golden bells. They looked fancy and neat and ready to travel.

In the cool autumn air, come in for a hot drink, meet fellow travellers, and stay for the fabulous company of Mrs Gerdri’s cats. If you’re looking for a job, the cat lady herself is hiring! Must love cats.

Harvest Festival
Gather around! It’s that time of year of harvest and merriment that no other season can do just right! It’s the Harvest Festival in Gazin, of course! There’s games and prizes to be won, music and laughter, magic to be seen, and all sorts of harvest foods to be had. Try some cake, have some bread, make something magical for a friend!

Whatever you choose, leave room for dancing because Gazin sure goes all out with spectacle and music and their finest of beers. There’s something for everyone at the Harvest Festival, which will run for six weeks before it’s done.

Gazin’s Shield Day
Lan Wangji, Wei Wuxian, Xue Yang, Wen Kexing, Zhou Zishu, Merlan O’Keefe and many other locals have been busy for quite some time working on a citywide shielding project for Gazin. On this day, they’re making it official with the revealing of the project in its final state. It’s enough of an accomplishment that it’s become a bonafide celebration in itself. There will be a magic fireworks display as well as festivities. With so many talented magic users in on this feat, its success is assured.

Monsters beware, Gazin is now officially protected!

He accepts the newly filled tea cup, "Thank you." For the tea and the compliment as he lifts the cup to his lips. He takes another small sip before humming his approval of it.

"It is good. You are welcome to help yourself to some." Tea is always better with company. Which might be why the cat is there. But the thought that it is getting colder makes him pause and he is silent for a moment as he thinks about something that has just come to him.

His cheeks pink at that but he beams and pours himself a cup at the invitation. "Always so generous," he says. And leaves it at that. It used to confuse him, this endless generosity. Now, sometimes it still worries him, enough he keeps watching over the blind man. As if others would take advantage of him. Which...well, it still happens. But it's not meanspirited, which he can see now.

He settles with a knee resting gently against Xingchen's, not wanting to stop touching him just yet, and takes a sip. Not as sweet as he usually likes, but..."It's good!" Still tasty.

But he's intune to this particular man's moods now, and tilts his head, watching. Then reaches out to gently tug on a sleeve. "A-Chen?"

The tug pulls him out of his thoughts and his face relaxes into a smile again. "Sorry...I was just reminded that I arrived when it was colder. I think it might be close to a year now." A surprising thought, having never thought he would be in this place for so long. But considering no one knows how to get home it seems perhaps he shouldn't have been so caught off guard by the realization.

But he also doesn't necessarily desire to return home. he is next to Zichen's side again, something he doesn't have at home. And together with Xue Yang they have a warm and loving home. Things are better for him now and perhaps he feels a little guilty that he could want to stay, feeling selfish for the desires.

"I hadn't realized it had been so long until just now. Time has moved so quickly."

A year. A whole year with Xingchen. He hasn't let himself think too hard about that, not with how many times this precious man has vanished, only to reappear with no memory of the previous stays.

But Xingchen obviously has, and Xue Yang settles against the other's side, daring to snuggle in with a low hum. "Do you want a celebration? Or a special dinner with certain people?" Celebrate their time together. Yes. He wouldn't mind doing that at all.

He has no desire to leave, and not just because leaving would mean going to his death. It would mean losing his Zichen, his Xingchen. All the good he's learned to mold himself into being able to give.

He has heard what might happen in his future if he returns home and it obviously scares him. He doesn't know if that future changes after being here or if the memories of their time together will stay intact. But it makes him also wish to stay here and not ever have that future come to be.

"I don't need anyone to go through such trouble just for that. It's probably a silly thing to think about." But since he lives his life in darkness, sometimes sitting and thinking is all he knows to do. Hands can only stay busy so often and he can't exactly watch his surroundings. So sometimes his mind wanders and thinks about things such as the passage of time.

"I already always have dinner with the people most special to me."

He hates what he'd put this sweet man through. None of it was deserved. But now, here in Gazin, Xue Yang can and does do his very best to make Xingchen happy. Happy enough to stay, though he's learned (the hard way) that it doesn't matter what he wants here. Sometimes people just vanish, no matter how much they wanted to stay.

He grins and presses a kiss to Xingchen's cheek. "All the more reason to do it!" He knows what it is to sit and dwell in one's memories. It had driven him just that much more insane.

He flushes at being included in 'people most special' and tightens his embrace. "You always will," he answers, firm and stubborn.

He smiles and reaches up to give Xue Yang's arm an affectionate pat, leaning into that attention to his cheek. "Do you really need such a reason to celebrate? You both have been here much longer then I have."

And neither of them seem to celebrate their arrival on this place. They obviously have other things to celebrate but Xingchen is not one that needs much of a fuss made over him.

He presses his smile against that soft cheek so Xingchen can feel it. "Do we need a reason to celebrate being happy?" Then rests their heads together.

"In a few months...I'll have been here two years. A-Lan followed a month or two later."

He feels much more settled now. And he likes how his core feels - Zichen seems to like it too.

"You don't know how you brighten any room you enter." This fact always leaves him in awe. But it's only right, for people to recognize how beautiful Xingchen's heart is.

His ears heat up at the compliment. He certainly would never consider himself the light of a room, or one worthy of such a high praise. It is hard to believe anyone would consider him in such a regard but there are two people who seem to do so.

"I suppose not. Celebrating is just a way to show that you are happy for something so there isn't anything wrong with doing it."

He just isn't used to having such attention. But if makes the other happy to do so then he will let them. He'll just be glad to spend time with them. Even though they all live together and can spend as much as they want every day, there is still special moments that are just a little bit more unique.

That blush is too cute! It makes him grin.

"I'll think of something." That he hopes Xingchen would like, that wouldn't be too much for the sweet, humble man. But would still be special. Even more than living together as they do, which is something he'll never take for granted again.

"I will look forward to it."

He smiles before lifting the tea to his lips and taking another sip of it. It's still pleasantly warm. And the little body in his lap has decided to stretch out and take up a little bigger space. He might not be able to see it but he can feel the weight now be distributed across more of his lap.

Xue Yang laughs a little in delight at that cute stretch, and reaches out to run fingers over that supple spine.

"Do you want to bring this one home with us?"

"You don't think we have enough to keep busy with?" He also might be slightly concerned about something so small trying to run around the house and his inability to see it. He would feel incredibly guilty if he stepped on the little creature.

He can sense a lot of things and he is sure that he would be hyper aware of the creature and its movements, but he also has concerns with having another animal to keep track of.

"I feel worried that it would be sad to not be around the others."

Xue Yang tilts his head, studying Xingchen and thinking. Trying to put himself in the blind man's boots, so to speak. He wonders if it's more than just missing other felines, though that's a very valid worry.

Slowly, as if feeling his way through the idea, "what if we get a few, and put bells on them? They're light on their feet and hard to catch."

Xingchen knows that Xue Yang is trying to figure out a way to make it easier on him and he certainly appreciates it. But it is hard to temper his concerns when he starts to overthink things.

"It is a nice thought but perhaps we should think about it. We don't have to decide on this right now."

The cafe isn't going anywhere and there will always be plenty of opportunity for them to grow their animal family.

He pouts at the suggested denial, but it's just Xingchen being the incredibly selfless, kind man that he is.

"Then I hope you come visit with these sweet ones often!" There! Side-stepping that flash of what could (and would have) grow into anger!

He smiles and gives a little nod, "I am sure that we will all be able to come and give them all the attention they deserve." He feels like they are already well cared for in the cafe. If they weren't then they wouldn't be so willing to sit with strangers.

And eventually they won't be strangers any more if they make return visits.

Every smile he gets from Xingchen still feels like a victory. It means that he's doing good, that Xingchen is happy.

"We will!" Since that sounded like an invitation to join his daozhang in visiting the sweet animals.

He always prefers company to being alone so he will welcome Xue Yang's companionship when it comes to returning to the shop. He feels the little creature in his lap start to stir. Apparently he has finished with his task and the little cat has decided it needs to stretch its legs. The cat jumps down and wanders off, which has Xingchen turning towards the table more fully so that he can place his hands around the warmth of the cup of what remains of his tea.

"Is there anything else new you have noticed around town?"

"Aww..." he murmurs as the handsome feline stretches and leaves Xingchen's lap. Xue Yang reaches out to check and make sure Xingchen's hands are warm enough. And if they're colder than he'd like, he'll try and warm them up!

"There's a new shield around Gazin. Now monsters will have a much harder time getting in. Our home is still nicely protected by Merlan, now the villagers can enjoy similar protection - isn't that great, A-Chen?" Back in Yi City...he'd probably sound mocking, or sarcastic. Here? Now?

There's genuine satisfaction in his voice. He'd helped with said shield, after all.

He lets the other warm his hands. He can't help but feel the slight change of the weather and knows that things are going to get colder much faster. He doesn't mind the colder weather especially since it is so much easier to get warm then it would be back home.

"That is wonderful to hear. Everyone deserves to be able to live without fear."

And the villagers have always been so welcoming to them all. They deserve to be protected above anything else.
