WHO: Carter and YOU! Yes, YOU!
WHEN: February 10th-13th
WHAT: Arrival
WHERE: Gazin
WARNINGS: None so far
1. Arrival
The order to retreat had stung, in more ways than one. Not just because they'd managed to overpower the Titanium Ranger, only to fall back; but because-- despite the clear public risk the Titanium Ranger posed... somehow, it felt like Carter was the one in the wrong for wanting to stop him. Simply because he was going against the Captain's orders, and the Captain's orders were absolute.
It was frustrating. It was embarrassing. But most of all, it was another reminder that the Captain still thought Carter wasn't good enough to lead. Even though he knew the Captain was wrong in this case.
That frustration festered on the way back to the Lightspeed Aquabase. Carter behind the wheel of the rescue rover, as he tried to contain his frustration toward the Captain. A dangerous threat was loose, and they were ordered to retreat? How could the Captain be so callous? People were probably getting hurt right this moment! And it would've never even happened if he'd managed to control the power of the Titanium Morpher in the first place!
That was the thought that made his frustrations crash down. This would've never happened if he'd just been able to handle the Titanium power. The morpher wouldn't have been at risk. Diabolico's minions wouldn't have gotten their hands on it. His team wouldn't have been forced to retreat. People wouldn't be getting hurt.
Maybe he wasn't the leader he thought he was. Maybe he didn't belong in Lightspeed, or in Mariner Bay.
And it was in that moment, that his vision went blurry. Everything blending together like ripples of water, as Carter lost his sense of balance. Tensing as he tried to keep his hold on the steering wheel, only to realize he was holding on to nothing. His feet finally landing on solid ground, prompting him to kneel, one hand against the ground, waiting for everything to settle. And looking up to find...
A crossroads.
He brought his other hand up, pressing a button on his morpher. "Lightspeed, do you read?" Nothing but static. "Lightspeed, come in!" Again, nothing but static. "Captain Mitchell? Miss Fairweather? Dana? Anyone?" Once again, the static continued, until he shut the feed off.
"... I don't think we're in Mariner Bay anymore."
2. Exploring Town
From the moment he arrived in town, he knew he was completely out of place. He wasn't sure where this was, or how he got here, but one thing was for sure-- this wasn't Diabolico's doing. Diabolico didn't strike Carter as the type to not take advantage of a separated and weakened ranger, especially one cut off from Lightspeed altogether. So wherever this was-- whatever this was-- it had to be something completely unrelated.
Maybe this was Mariner Bay in the past. Captain Mitchell had mentioned that the demons had been sealed five thousand years ago by a warlock, so it stood to reason that Mariner Bay had to look something like this around that time. Of course, speculation wasn't getting him anywhere, which was why he'd made sure to find an inn the moment he got into town. Giving himself at least one night of sleep before tackling the mystery-- and this time, leaving his Lightspeed Rescue jacket in his inn room, so as to draw a little less attention.
"Excuse me-- I'm sorry, but is there anything you can tell me about this town? I only just arrived yesterday, and any information on hand would be greatly appreciated."

1 (you get videl's arrival, you lucky man)
Her enthusiasm dropped away with the fading light as she got closer to home. With the World Tournament coming up, her dad was even more busy than usual, and Videl knew she'd be eating dinner by herself tonight. She sighed, idly tugging on one of her pigtails, thinking back to lunchtime at the Son house that afternoon. Was that how normal families ate meals every day, talking and joking and arguing? There was something more than lonely meals with silent servants on hand? It was too bad Gohan hadn't invited Videl to stay for dinner too. That would've been way nicer than going home.
A sudden burst of air shoved against Videl's helicopter, sending it lurching upward. She screamed as wind rushed into her face, forcing her to squeeze her eyes closed as she grabbed wildly for the control stick. Her hands found nothing at the same time that she felt herself falling---not falling in her helicopter, but falling outside it. She forced her eyes open to see the heavily forested ground far beneath her... but coming up fast.
Videl squeezed her eyes shut and tried to focus her panicked mind. Fly! Come on, fly! she commanded herself. She gripped her fists tight as she tried to remember Gohan's instructions: focus on your ki, then use it to hold yourself up.
She tried to look inward, grappling for her ki and shoving it downward toward the ground. It barely felt like anything, but she frantically kept at it; grabbing and pushing, grabbing and pushing, grabbing and pushing. The air whipping past her started to whip a little slower and the swimming sense of vertigo as she plummeted downward abated just slightly. Slower, slower, as Videl focused solely on grabbing and pushing. Her arms and legs were shaking from strain, even though she wasn't using them, but Videl ignored the pain and kept on grabbing and pushing.
Finally, after what felt like hours (but was more like a minute), Videl's strength finally gave out and she fell freely the last five feet to the ground at the exact point where the two roads split.

However, he didn't take it to mean that he should've looked up. Only that he could've still been in one of Diabolico's schemes. He didn't notice someone was falling until the very last second. Until he heard that exhale of breath as Videl's strength gave out on her.
His body reacted more than anything else. Arms shooting up, to try and catch the girl as she fell to the ground. It wasn't a graceful catch, mostly because of how last minute it'd been. But it was a catch, the firefighter grunting, as he got pushed down to one knee as he held the girl in both his arms, breathless from the sudden weight slammed down on him.
"D-Don't worry, I've-- I've got you. You're okay..."

The blond haired, light eyed man cradling Videl in his arms was not Gohan.
The smile melted right off her face as the stranger spoke. Contrary to his reassurances, Videl was most certainly not okay, not in the slightest. Some weird guy she'd never met was holding her! Never mind that he just caught her after falling thousands of feet in the air... How dare he hold her so intimately!
"L-Let me go!" she protested, squirming in his hold. She whipped her head to the side to keep the stranger from seeing the embarrassed blush creeping over her cheeks. "I'm fine, really!"
no subject
So, he tried to set her down before she ended up falling from his arms. Letting go of her once her back was on the ground, before bringing a hand to his knee, and grunting as he pushed himself to a more upright position. "Are you hurt?" He asked simply, not bothering to worry about her attitude. His major concern was making sure she didn't need any immediate medical attention.
no subject
"I'm fine," she repeated brusquely. "Nothing's broken."
Videl got her first good look at the stranger. He was... actually not a bad looking guy. Older than Videl, but probably not by a lot, and dressed in what looked like an EMT outfit. She cast a glance around their surroundings and saw nothing but forest on either side of the dirt road beneath them. No buildings, no people, and weirdest of all, no emergency vehicles.
"Where... am I?" she asked, the harshness fading from her tone.
no subject
Well, nothing but the town off in the distance.
His eyes narrowed. He moved to the sign by the crossroads, all the while answering her. "I'm not sure yet. I just got here too." Making it to the sign, he used his hand to brush off some of the dirt on it. "Do you have anything on you that can carry a signal? A phone? A communicator? Anything like that?"
no subject
His question interrupted Videl before she had a chance to ask. "Yeah," she said with a nod, lifting her wrist. "My watch is a two-way radio. I'll see if I can reach anyone."
Videl lifted the watch close to her mouth and held down one of the buttons. "Videl to Dispatch," she hailed. "Come in, Dispatch."
The faint sound of static was the only sound from her watched. Videl waited several seconds, then frowned. Several seconds passed in silence.
"This is Videl to SCPD Dispatch, over," she repeated more firmly. "Dispatch, do you read me?"
Static resumed. Videl waited impatiently until she was sure no one was going to respond.
"Videl to Dispatch, do you copy? If you guys are messing with me, I'm going to kick your butts when I get back!"
Of course, no one was messing with her. No one responded over the radio.
no subject
"It's alright, I'm having the same problem," He reassured, finally brushing enough dirt off the sign. Squinting for a moment as he read the word 'Gazin', mostly because it didn't sound like any town near Mariner Bay. "I can't contact my dispatch either. I think it's safe to say that this isn't an isolated issue. We're probably out of range."
But why they were out of range was the real question.
He turned to face her, still stone faced throughout the entire exchange. "My name's Carter Grayson, Red Lightspeed Ranger. You mentioned SCPD before, by any chance, are you from Stone Canyon?"
no subject
She turned her gaze to the sign Carter had cleaned off and frowned at it. The word 'Gazin' didn't make any more sense to her than it did to him. Was that supposed to be a way marker for a town or something? She'd never heard of such a place, which was weird considering how close they ought to be to Satan City. But then, Videl had never heard of a city called 'Stone Canyon' either. Just how far had she been blown off course?
She chewed her lower lip, thinking. "The radio in my helicopter has way better range than my watch. If we can find that, we might be able to reach someone." Videl gave a dubious look to her surroundings. "But I think it reverted to a capsule while I was flying, for some reason. We're better off looking for a needle in a haystack."
no subject
The entire situation was starting to get away from Carter. Communications weren't working, both of them seemed to have been brought here spontaneously, and neither of them seemed to be familiar with each other's locales. The area looked incredibly rural, and the next town over didn't sound at all familiar to him-- or to her, if her frown was any indication.
Just where were they?
"We don't have enough information to go on," He said, quickly glancing over at the town in the distance. "Let's head into town. We'll have a better chance of figuring out where we are over there than out here."

When she raises her head, she can see that no— this man is not speaking to her, just someone nearby. The man in charge of selling these wares, in fact, who keeps casting Maleficent a nervous sidelong look as he tries to communicate some useful information to the curious newcomer.
Maleficent, with great self restraint, keeps her tongue tied— but she does raise both eyebrows at the merchant. It's difficult to tell if this is a threat or not, and he stutters out something akin to: I've got work to do, I'm sorry before making himself scarce and leaving his stall unattended.
no subject
One glance to the side though, was enough for Carter to guess what had him spooked.
His body tensed, his first instinct being that this was one of Diabolico's monsters. But rather than show any surprise or fear... instead, his eyes narrowed, his lips a firm line. To his credit, he tried to remind himself that it couldn't have been one of Diabolico's monsters-- or at least, not as he was used to them. He was jumping to conclusions, and the last thing he needed right now was to make a scene without the full picture.
"Excuse me, ma'am--" He turned to face her, but didn't approach. There was an obvious distrust there, but he wasn't stupid enough to just fight her outright. "I'm sorry to interrupt you, but are you native to this town?"
