Arrival and panic (OTA)
Who: Wei Wuxian + OTA (with one closed to castmates)
Where: Around Gazin and a random field
When: October 27th-ish
What: Wei Wuxian arrives, finds he's alone without his husband and freaks out maybe a little bit
Warnings: Wei Wuxian being an asshole to Xue Yang. Typical canon mentions of death and violence, PTSD/Panic attack, self-hatred, (will update as necessary)
Gazin Open to all
The last thing Wuxian remembers doing was babbling on about some new technique he wanted to try that he was working on perfecting with a talisman as he and Wangji walked through Caiyi Town, all while wishing the two of them were somewhere private, and then all of a sudden he’d found himself here without the other man by his side. Odd, but maybe the man was nearby and he would just have to ask around. Whoever’s nearest will get a barrage of questions from him.
“Ah, pardon me but have you seen a handsome... No, a beautiful looking man that looks like someone carved him from jade and wears all white? With a handsome face and wears an expression as if someone’s offended his wife? He wears a white ribbon on his forehead with clouds on it, and his eyes shine like two warm suns.”
Fields (Closed to Xue Yang, and then later open to Song Lan & Xiao Xingchen once wwx is dragged back to their place)
pt.1 (for Xue Yang)
The news that no one has seen anyone like Wangji makes Wuxian begin to panic a bit as he chases every pristine white piece of clothing until he loses sight of it, even if he’s only imagining it in his mind of how much he doesn’t want to believe that he’s there alone. He doesn’t do being alone anymore, it doesn’t sit right with him, and it doesn’t do good for him since he knows he won’t sleep well or at all without Wangji by his side. It’s evening, and he’s now found himself out in some field away from the city he’s learned is called Gazin, and he’s getting tired but refuses to sleep. Damn that weaker body of his for tiring out quicker.
By the time it’s late at night or even almost morning, Wuxian is barely standing upright as he’s forcing himself to keep going, but feels his feet giving out from under him as he falls backwards onto something with a thud and an “mmph” as he hits whatever he landed against.
Pt.2 (now including Song Lan & Xiao Xingchen)
He doesn’t remember falling asleep, but once he awakes, Wuxian is trying to catch his breath as if he’d experienced a nightmare and sits upright. Not fully aware of it himself, he’d loudly called out for Wangji the moment he awoke. He’s in an unknown place and that doesn’t do much of any good for his already existing panic of not being able to find Wangji. He’s also missing Suibian from his waist and doesn’t see Chenqing either, in fact he’s just in an under robe without anyone in sight. The only thing in his hand is the jade token he’d been gripping onto, the only physical thing with him from the Cloud Recesses. He wanted to get up and leave to continue his search, but his tired body was protesting, so he reluctantly just lays back down in a huff holding the token close to his chest.

Every so often he still goes out with the wagon of supplies, which can take a few days there and back and occasionally ends with him wounded. Not today though, though he should have stopped to rest for the night, rather than urge his horse to keep going, if at just a walk. So he comes upon someone standing in a field on the way leading to Gazin and he stares, gently tugging his horse to stop before dismounting.
He creeps closer, not wanting to give himself away if it's a foe. Only to frown as he gets close enough to recognize some features from behind. And then the other starts to fall, prompting him to leap forward to catch.
"Senior Wei?!"
no subject
"Let me go, I'm fine. How are you still alive?" Sure, he's grateful to have been stopped from crashing to the ground but at the same time his stubbornness and less than pleasant mood has him pushing away in an attempt to steady his balance.
no subject
"That hasn't happened to me yet." He knows it's coming whenever he returns to their world. But that hasn't happened yet, and he's been here for months and months!
"I wished myself here before your Hanguang-Jun could kill me. Good thing, too! I like it here. Daozhang Zichen and Xingchen seem to like it too." Which is more important to him, and his voice clearly says that.
"Our home isn't much further. It's a little late, but they're expecting me any time so might be awake still. I can take you there." Or maybe he'll wait and see if Wuxian manages to stay upright...
XY is free to sit on the stubborn asshole
"So, are they babysitting you so that you aren't being a delinquent? And no thanks, I'll be fine. I don't know what kind of tricks you're playing when they should be dead as well."
Go home with him? Even if he's tired, there's no way Wuxian would fall for such a trap! He'd rather pass out somewhere in whatever place he's at or find an inn than accept Xue Yang's help, and as such shakes his head to try and leave. Only to lose his balance again and land gracelessly on his butt in the grass.
OH HE WILL
Xue Yang shakes his head with a huff. "No tricks. No babysitting. I'm a married man now and promised not to lie or hurt people unless they're hurting my Daozhangs." The fact he hasn't been tossed out on his ass despite telling them everything still has him in utter shock and awe, but he's not about to risk losing it.
"We all came here before we died, Senior. Time doesn't really matter once we get here."
And then he watches Wuxian fall again. He grimaces, then whistles for his horse. "A-Chen wouldn't be very happy with me if I just left you outside in the cold, and A-Lan would be disappointed. I work hard not to upset them, you are not going to start that."
Even if that involves him strapping Wei Wuxian to his saddle and dragging him home to a warm bed. Which is precisely what he'll do once his loyal horse trots up!
GOOD, BECAUSE HE NEEDS TO BE SAT ON... And maybe punched
He takes a few breaths, fixing a glare to the night sky while letting himself lay backwards for a moment in his stubbornness. Some of that resentment is that someone like Xue Yang seems to have gotten a second chance without dying, and he's bitter about that. After all, he had to die and come back to get his second chance. "Do they know? Do they know what you did?"
lol
"I don't do that anymore. They have been...kind. To me. Teaching me how to be better. At first it was a joke, but it stopped being that."
Xue Yang grimaces at that last question. Do they know what you did. He looks away, watching his horse pick its way closer. "They know," he answers, subdued. "I told them everything. I don't know why they didn't kick me out then. I don't understand it." He turns back to Wuxian. "But I won't disappoint or hurt them ever again." There's a note of pure, stubborn, steel in his voice at that.
no subject
"That's surprising they didn't turn on you for what you did. Maybe there is truth to what you're saying, by how your tone sounds. You've been a good actor, but maybe you're not faking it after all."
Wuxian's words are dripping with all of the bitterness he can let out, with a hint of hurt that he wasn't given that, even though he'd understood why now. His left hand absentmindedly goes for the jade token on his waist, rubbing it as he closed his eyes and took a few deeper breaths to calm himself somewhat before looking at Xue Yang with a less intense glare. "I'm still not going with you, I have someone to find, and I can't do that while in some house."
no subject
"Mm, it is. But they haven't, and I'm grateful." More than words can express. "I'm trying to do better now. They want to support that."
He squats down near the other man with a breath, resting his elbows on his knees. "...Huanguang-Jun isn't here anymore. Maybe he'll be back. I hope he does come back." He means it, even if there's the very real risk Wangji will just stab him this time, unlike last time.
no subject
"What do you mean 'anymore', are you telling me he was here before but is gone? 'Maybe' he'll be back, what the hell's that supposed to mean, what are you talking about?! What happened to him then if he's not here anymore?"
And there it was, the snap and panic settling back in even while trying not to let it get to him even further.
no subject
"He was, just like you were. Just like A-Chen and your brother and Wen Qing. I hope he just went home like the rest, but I don't know."
Bald honesty. Not all that reassuring, really. "You don't remember, just like A-Chen doesn't remember his first time here. It's okay." It isn't, but he's trying to make it so it's okay again, so that means the same...right?
He doesn't think Wei Wuxian will be awake much longer anyway. Then he'll just drape him over his horse's back and lead the loyal beast home.
no subject
"HOW-- HOW could I have been here before?! I have no IDEA where I am or what this place is! DON'T LIE TO ME!"
Wuxian was all but shouting as his voice raised with each word, although he simultaneously felt his vision start to darken as he got so overwhelmed in his exhaustion that every part of his body went limp and passed out.
no subject
Then hoists him up as his horse trots up, snorting in greeting. He smiles at it and drapes Wuxian over the horse's back before picking up the reigns to lead it home. An occasion glance over his shoulder checking on Wuxian, and he hums quietly to his horse as they pick their way home.
When they get there, he leaves his horse standing right in front of the door while he hoists Wuxian inside and to the couch, where he plops the other man down. Then returns outside, trusting his husband and Xingchen to watch over his Senior until he's done settling his horse in for the night with hay and water.
no subject
He's bolted upright with a blanket falling off him as he looks down at his hand, only to notice that his robes besides the underrobe are missing as are Suibian and Chenqing both. Unfortunately his body is protesting as he begrudgingly lays back down and covers himself back up clutching desperately to the jade token in his hands, voice barely a whisper, verging on tears to the experienced ears. "I don't believe that you aren't here... Where are you?"
no subject
Xue Yang stumbles out of his room at the shouting, rubbing a fist over his eyes as he shrugs a too-large robe on. "That's not very nice to say to someone who's giving you shelter, Senior," he huffs at Wuxian. He can see the emotion in those eyes though, hears the desperate quality in the other's voice. But he saunters into the kitchen to get tea started, yawning and stretching - a wince at a pop of a joint has him shift his weight off that leg.
He'll have to tell Zichen...
He wanders back to where Wuxian is as the water heats up and plops down...yep. Right on his Senior. Not his fault if Wuxian doesn't move!
"I'm not lying to you. I'd haul your right to his door if he were here."
no subject
Rubbing his face and his eyes, Wuxian takes a look at his surroundings, raising an eyebrow at the clothes on the table but giving them no further attention as he has just been sat on. That makes him mad enough that he's glaring with an intent to at least harm, if not worse.
"Sure you would, now get off, and while you're at it, give me back Chenqing and Suibian so I can leave. You're not making yourself trustworthy by disarming me, you know." He spat with a growl and darkened glare, both hands now clinging to the treasure in his hands.
no subject
"Nope," he chirps cheerfully. "I promised my Daozhangs to try and not get stabbed. If I gave you your sword back, that's what would happen. And you should rest a bit more before I show you where the Inn is so you can get checked in until you find work."
But he does stand, because he hears the kettle whistle softly. He doesn't make a single move to take that precious token from Wuxian though. Just wanders off to the kitchen to finish making them some tea before returning. Though this time he plops himself down on the low table and holds out the second cup of gently steaming, steeping tea.
"It's not poisoned. I don't do that here."
XY you fool, don't let him be alone for a whole week until lwj shows up!
"Fine, whatever... You're right that I'd stab you. Tell me where it is at least, or give me Chenqing. But wait, you'll probably think I'll summon one of the dead on you, like I need my flute to do that."
The last little bit was under his breath as Xue Yang got off of him, but when he retired, Wuxian eyes the cup warily before accepting it. He's thirsty enough and if it was poisoned and it killed him, then so be it.
"I'm not sure if I believe you but if you haven't tried anything yet then... Maybe. What even is this place?" Distract from the current frustrations and get some information would help his mood even somewhat, or so he hopes. He sure as hell doesn't want to talk about his emotions to someone he's only known as an enemy.
lol he wooooon't
Xue Yang takes a sip of tea, cradling the cup between both hands as he watches Wuxian with an odd kind of fascination. They'd never gotten to spend all that much time together. Maybe now that can change? He hopes so! He's admired this man for so long...
"I've been here for most of the year. The only things I've killed are beasts that attack the city or my employer's things. But that's kind of my job, I get paid to protect the merchant's stuff.
"As for what this place is...as far as I know, anyone who wishes to be somewhere else gets brought here, to that crossroads of signs. It's not a bad place, Senior. I like it here."
At least he's got a brain unlike the genius idiot huffing at the moment
"Resorting to flattery? Everyone gives me too much credit for things." That arrogant overconfidence had evaporated after returning, instead becoming the exact opposite thing. But he shook his head and arched a brow at Xue Yang saying he hasn't killed anyone in almost a year and only killed beasts, which certainly seems absurd considering it couldn't have been that long since Wuxian last saw him!
"What do you mean you've been here most of the year? It was only a couple of months ago when you lost an arm to Lan Zhan and were bleeding to death when you were taken away. How can you have been here for so long when not much time has passed yet? Are you telling me this place not only takes us from home, but messes with time as well?"
Nevermind the rest, which he silently notes. He had been wishing to be elsewhere at the moment he was separated, but that was to privately be with Wangji instead of the city, not away from him!
XD
He takes a sip of tea, rolling his eyes again though there's amusement in the gesture. "Daozhang Zichen isn't a Fierce Corpse yet, he still has his tongue. And Daozhang Xingchen is still alive, too, and he's come and gone once already. Why is it so much a stretch to accept I'm from before I lose an arm and my life? Time doesn't matter here."
Maybe it should bother him to know that he loses an arm before even dying. But it doesn't. He accepts he should die. He'd rather it be at Zichen's hand than Lan Wangji, but that's just how he thinks these days.
No. That wouldn't be kind or fair to his husband. It's better, he decides then, that Lan Wangji be the one to do it.
no subject
"Don't sell yourself short, you've got talent." He mutters reluctantly and then takes a deep breath. Why wouldn't it be hard to accept that? Coming back from the dead was one thing, but time being messed with somehow is an entirely different thing. His eyes narrow at the other man, still clearly trying to figure this all out. Especially that one of them has come and gone.
"It's a stretch because I don't have a single clue how someone can time travel. There's nothing that lets us unlike stories about possessions, or in my case, having someone sacrifice themselves and summon a soul back. How can your present be my past?"
no subject
Xue Yang takes another sip, watching the other with that same odd interest, but really. He's genuinely delighted to get the chance to help Wei Wuxian. It doesn't matter that Wuxian doesn't trust him all that much. The other is still listening to him and that means a great deal. And hasn't stabbed him, which is another plus.
"Magic!" He chirps in answer. "Did you run into a strange guy who cast a spell on you? You should find him. That way you can understand people from other worlds."
no subject
But no matter, he's listening, confused as he is to the other. "I... Guess that makes enough sense." Even if it still seemed almost impossible. "You mean that guy, Bhalris? The one I understood after he did something when I was asking around for Lan Zhan?"
no subject
He still nods. "Yeah. Good! That'll make things easier."
But there's something about this man that reminds him of himself, beyond the obvious penchant for cheek and the darker path of cultivation. Something...fragile and wounded. Hidden, he decides, studying Wuxian for a quiet few minutes.
"You don't have to hold back with me, Senior. I can take it. Bottling everything up helps no one, and hurts you and those who love you."
no subject
But that next bit sends a chill down Wuxian's spine, being read like a book so easily when he did his best to hide all of his pain from everyone, even from Wangji at times because he didn't want people to worry about him, especially when those were people he loved. He could do it on his own, he'd done that long enough and it worked fine. Until it didn't, and literally backfired in his face.
"What are you talking about? You and everyone else, you worry too much, I'm FINE! Where was this worry before from you people?" The last words come out in more of a snapped, pained laugh than he even realises. It pulls bitter feelings he had before at Nightless City when someone he deemed insignificant spouted things about having respected him as he was being demonised at the same time.
no subject
Xue Yang.
His method is just painful though. Calm and poking at all the things people don't like poked at. That laugh hurts though and he nudges the cup of tea at Wuxian again.
"Most people don't dare poke at things that need poked at. That's why the main clans disgust me - all up in their high towers with rules and how everyone must act...No real care for what they're hiding as long as it's kept hidden. All their dirty little secrets."
He shrugs, gaze remaining on the other man, a quick little smile that doesn't even try to touch his eyes. "I've been there. My Daozhangs pulled me from all that pain and loneliness. And I'm here now. I'd have only hurt you before, Senior. But I can help now."
no subject
It doesn't stop him from trying, even when he takes the tea and sips it, knuckles going white as he tenses. Glaring. Even reluctantly agreeing. He had his own anger towards those rules and regulations, having had things spat at him growing up about bringing Yunmeng to ruin by Madam Yu or being balked at for wanting to defend the remaining Wens who had done no wrong other than having the Wen surname! It infuriated him! Not to mention the numerous reprimandings he received for not carrying his sword.
"Jin clan knew all about hiding and lying to keep what they wanted hidden after the Sunshot Campaign and killing Wen Ruohan. They wanted all of the remaining Wens dead and tortured them, but they kept Wen Ning around because he was my 'greatest weapon' and wouldn't dare destroy him. Sect leader Jin coveted my creations while hating me." He spat, resentments boiling. Things he told himself he wasn't bothered about anymore, but really all lies to stop from dwelling on it now that he had another chance and his name was cleared.
He flinches at the other saying he could help. He didn't need the pity, even if what Xue Yang was saying wasn't pity, it was missed on him at that moment. Like a wounded animal fearing for its life. "What could you do? What could you hope to help with?"
no subject
He nods, listening, agreeing to the points Wuxian mentions. He sips his tea too, a knee bouncing a little as he works off just enough of his energy to hold mostly still. The resentful energy he'd once been infused with is much less these days. Thanks to Zichen's diligent tutelage, care, and encouragement.
"Give you someone to scream at. To listen to you. You don't have to worry about hurting my feelings," he gives a rather sharp grin. "And if you want to throw punches, I can take it. I'll duck and dodge unless you're better than you were at our last fight." When Wuxian had sent someone else to fight him. Huff.
A cocky little grin finally reappears. "I would say you can stab me all you want if it helps, but I can't let that happen anymore. It upsets my Daozhangs." He doesn't care about the actual being stabbed part - it's the hurting Song Zichen and Xiao Xingchen that he doesn't want to do. Ever again.
They've been through enough because of him.
no subject
"Oh how wonderful, someone wanting to listen to me NOW! Where was that before it got me turned on and blamed for everything? Before I died? Even if a lot of those things are true, I did bring ruin to everyone I cared about." There's that bitter stab at himself, that no matter what he'd always blame certain deaths and suffering on himself. Those words had always stung when told to him in his teenage years.
Wuxian's eye twitches as he glares daggers at Xue Yang's calm, cocky demeanor, further angering him. Something about the other reminds him of himself and he's not quite sure of it until it hits him: That's how he himself was in his teens before losing his core, that cockiness of challenging everyone and boasting about it.
And being goaded on helps very little. He finishes the tea, takes a deep breath and exhales, falling for the taunt and throws a punch. Invitation or not, he would have lunged at Xue Yang no matter what.
no subject
Xue Yang chuckles as Wuxian lashes out at him with words, sensing it's just a little closer to where he'll feel better about not keeping a close eye on his dear senior. Too calm and cocky for Wuxian's liking, and he keeps that up easily. Challenging the other man to let go.
And - ah! There it is! He sees how Wuxian finishes the cup of tea and bothers to even set the cup down. So he follows suit, setting his cup down too. And there's a fist coming his way - he rolls to his feet, away to dodge it with a playful little flourish.
"You had it all, then you gave and gave and gave and...now you have nothing?" He sighs, waiting for the expected lunge. "Everyone dies, Senior. Other people helped speed your death along."
no subject
"Even when I DID 'have it all', it still wasn't the cushy life you'd think it was! I gave all I had to an ungrateful world." He growls, but the second Xue Yang says those two extremely painful words, he tunes the rest of it out. That hit too close to home. Too personal. His voice chokes, fury and pain flashing in his eyes as he jumps up and lunges.
"NOT EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE DIED. SHE DIDN'T DESERVE TO AND IT'S MY FAULT! I LEFT HER SON MOTHERLESS AND FATHERLESS!" Now he's shouting, his biggest regret erupting forward.
no subject
Still, he holds his composure. Watching. Waiting. Listening. Most of all, listening. He rolls out of the way of that lunge, using Wuxian's momentum if he needs to.
"Is it?" He asks, curious. "Are you sure you weren't just the vessel? You were convenient, I'm sure. Big bad Yiling Patriarch, ooooo...."
Gods... Just punt him already, bind him up and let him scream all night 😂
He keeps lunging, glaring with pure hatred at the other, eyes giving away a pained killing intent.
"What the hell do you even mean by that? You're LUCKY I don't have my original body, you'd see how 'bad' I was that made everyone fear me." He spits those words out, hatred and mocking at himself and Xue Yang both.
/snicker
"Is that all you can manage?" He asks with a bit of a huff, tilting his head to eye the other man. "We should work on your strength. My core isn't that strong yet, but I can still hit harder." It's stronger than it had been, thanks to Zichen's efforts in actually teaching him.
It still spurs him to leap forward, to pounce and restrain the other if he succeeds. "You should rest more, Senior. You'll feel better if you do."
