lucky me
WHO: Claire Temple; Open
WHEN: February 8th-10th
WHAT: Settling in, meeting new people.
WHERE: Gazin
WARNINGS: None
arrival
The arrival at the sign was certainly not as jarring as the fountain was back at the settlement, and yet, there is still an uneasiness about getting transported in the blink of an eye to a place that looks nothing like Cuba. So much for going to see her abuela and her mother. That uneasiness also extends to not really knowing for sure if the town ahead is welcoming to strangers from other worlds or not, though it occurs to her that even the multiverse does things for a reason. So, she sets off to explore her new surroundings.
But not before almost getting run over by a group of horse riders who felt the need to stop and find out what the new person has in her odd-looking rectangular satchel.
settling in
After settling into a room at the inn, Claire took inventory of what she had and what she'd need and clothes were on the top of that list, though without money, she was going to have to make do or advertise her skills. In the meantime, she was able to sell a scarf, some bracelets, a pair of earrings and a few hair clips. All in all, it gave her about 35 gold, so off she went in search of clothing at some of the shops in Gazin.
Later, she could be found eating at the inn where she stayed or at the neighbouring tavern to numb herself with some drinks to numb how overwhelmed she was feeling by everything, though it didn't show. Like the settlement, it would take some time to get used to it all. It was just too bad that a certain Hero of Harlem couldn't have been left behind.

For Clark
Claire can't help but relate in some small way. The settlement wasn't as bad as other places people have been and though things were pretty disturbing before she left, being there gave her some experience about living without technology.
His voice gave some indication of just how bad it was and her expression turns to one of sympathy, but more for having to experience that kind of world than anything else. He was here now and not still there, after all.
"So multiverse travel is next level for you then, huh?" Claire says with a friendly smile. "I was on my way to Havana, Cuba to see family when I ended up here, but before that, I was in a place where I'm pretty sure I was a clone."
She waves a hand back and forth, laughing despite shaking her head in exasperation.
"Long story."
Re: For Clark
He cocks his head, blinking. "That sounds... both intriguing and horrifying." Clark gently reaches over to squeeze her shoulder before letting go.
"The multiverse is definitely full of weird possibilities."
no subject
"Not as horrifying as some of the other things that have happened. So, this?" Claire's eyes glance around. "Is feeling a lot like a vacation so far."
After a short pause she offers her hand.
"I'm Claire, by the way."
no subject
"I'm Clark. Nice to meet you, Claire. Welcome to wonderland."
Its a silly thing to say, but sometimes, Clark is a very silly person.
For Graham
Claire watches him. He hadn't really answered her question but he sounds like he is only accepting it to maybe not look crazy.
She looks down thoughtfully and then glances up again.
"When you said it felt like someone was literally holding your heart and squeezing it, you mean that literally, didn't you?"
no subject
"Yes."
no subject
"Good thing this isn't my first rodeo or that would definitely sound insane."
no subject
settling in
Xingchen keeps a respectful distance from where she's sitting, his voice naturally soft as he asks the question. He's used to a blind man not always being welcomed, so he's prepared to withdraw until he's sure.
no subject
Good thing she wasn't the type to believe all blind men were the same.
"The soups and stews are really good," she nods, giving the man a warm smile before laughing softly. "I haven't brought myself to try out the dish that I think might be haggis. I'm more of a burrito person really."
no subject
He smiles, approaching when he hears the warmth in her voice.
"I'm not familiar with haggis or bur-ito?" He tilts his head gently. What he heard and what springs from his tongue aren't an exact match. "Maybe I should brave one of these dishes. Soups and stews are the only thing I've made since arriving here."
for Wing Qing
"I guess you can call me a traveller, yeah," Claire replies after a moment, thinking about the reality of that now. This will be her second stop, that she remembers, in the multiverse though there are quick memories of another place that she had dreamed about the night before that have her wondering if she'd been to other places.
Dark brown eyes scan the bottled herbs and when the nurse looks back up she looks uncertain. "I have to admit I know nothing about the plants besides keeping them alive back home. What sort of doses do would you give to someone if they needed it?"
no subject
Looking up again, she studies the woman intently. "In your travels, have you ever heard of a land named Qishan? The Nightless City? Or Lanling, maybe? Carp Tower?"
